{"id":1949,"date":"2021-06-11T14:56:34","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T18:56:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/headandheartinternational.com\/site\/?p=1949"},"modified":"2021-06-16T10:51:32","modified_gmt":"2021-06-16T14:51:32","slug":"so-many-things-are-lacking-from-todays-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/headandheartinternational.com\/site\/es\/so-many-things-are-lacking-from-todays-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Today&#8217;s school curriculum lacks what students need most"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00abScreen Zombies.\u00bb \u00a0This is a name I&#8217;ve coined for the many students who sit in front of me (in person or on a screen). \u00a0No longer are they lively and engaged, eager to learn and tout how much they know. \u00a0As a result of schools becoming \u00aboveracademized\u00bb and Core Curriculum reigning as the main priority, they are increasingly bored, disinterested, educational automatons. \u00a0Alternatively, they are depressed and stressed, as demonstrated by teen suicide rates skyrocketing. \u00a0They turn to the only thing that gives them a rush- but ultimately can lead to their demise- their electronic devices.<\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>8 primary things lacking-\u00a0<\/strong>undervalued and underfunded-\u00a0<strong>in today&#8217;s school curriculum<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Creativity<\/li>\n<li>Visual and Performing Arts<\/li>\n<li>Second Language Learning<\/li>\n<li>Personal Voices &amp; Self-Expression<\/li>\n<li>Life Skills<\/li>\n<li>Physical Education &amp; Recess<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on Activities &amp; Play<\/li>\n<li>Social-Emotional Learning<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Today&#8217;s high school students need to somebody to bring back their sparkle. \u00a0School needs to be fun again. \u00a0Kids of all age need to play, and express themselves creatively. \u00a0They need the chance to explore their inner selves, passions, desires, aptitudes, and bring out the best of theirselves to the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARTSY ENGLISH,<\/strong> a unique academic enrichment program designed to help school-aged students learn English as a new language through the visual &amp; performing arts and life skills activities, seeks to fill in these 8 gaps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW DOES ARTSY ENGLISH SEEK TO FILL IN THESE 8 GAPS?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It promotes academically:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communicative Competence and Literacy Skills in English<\/li>\n<li>Student-centered and collaborative learning<\/li>\n<li>Contextualizing and illustrating the English concept that is being taught, by \u201cshowing, not telling.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Accesses multiple intelligences (Gardner) and various learning styles simultaneously<\/li>\n<li>Greater motivation to learn a second language<\/li>\n<li>Cross-cultural learning, exposure, and appreciation<\/li>\n<li>Greater engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>It promotes creatively and artistically:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creative problem solving<\/li>\n<li>\u201cArt Imitates Life:\u201d imitating and enhancing students\u2019 authentic realities<\/li>\n<li>Being \u201copen to interpretation\u201d and able to generate endless ideas\/language.<\/li>\n<li>Learning through play and fantasy- important at all ages!<\/li>\n<li>Skills in various visual arts, music, drama, kinesthetic activities, cooking, and life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>It promotes socially\/emotionally:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nurtures the mind, body, and soul<\/li>\n<li>Understanding, development, and honoring of one&#8217;s self, strengths, skills &amp; interests<\/li>\n<li>Creative\/individual expression and learner autonomy<\/li>\n<li>Engaging in the process instead of just the outcome- promotes internal motivation<\/li>\n<li>Reducing stress, anxiety, and boredom<\/li>\n<li>Gaining confidence and developing\u00a0social emotional skills<\/li>\n<li>Exploring feelings in a safe way<\/li>\n<li>Expressing self identity and culture in an\u00a0accepting environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today\u2019s schools have become \u201coveracademized\u00bb with Core Curriculum and standardized testing reigning supreme.\u00a0 Students are increasingly depressed, stressed, disengaged \u201cscreen zombies!\u201d  They deserve- and need- more!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":2035,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1949","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
